About Our Practice

Our practice was started here in New Bern in 1982. From day one, our mission has been to serve the community of New Bern and surrounding towns by providing trustworthy, honest, and quality care for your oral health. We hang our hat on being the kind of office that treats each patient as if they’re our own mother, grandmother, father or child. We are here to listen to your concerns, values, and questions and provide honest, straightforward guidance and answers. We base that advice on decades of experience and success in the field of dentistry by staying current with ongoing continuing education year by year.

Our practice was founded by Dr. Bob Whitley, who came to town as a public health dentist in Craven, Jones, and Pamlico counties after completing his dental training. He faithfully served our community for nearly 40 years alongside our staff until he determined it was time to retire and pass the baton to ensure continual care for our patients.

Dr. Whitley met Dr. Christopher Lane in November 2020 and began sharing with him his experiences caring for the good people of Craven, Jones, Pamlico, and Carteret counties. Drs. Whitley and Lane quickly realized they shared the same values of compassion, loyalty, and always doing what is right for their patients. They began planning for Dr. Lane to join the practice and continue the consistent, quality, ongoing care that our patients turn to us for year after year. Dr. Lane officially joined the practice in August 2021 and Dr. Whitley, staff, and patients welcomed him and his family to the New Bern community with open arms.

While Dr. Whitley has since retired from full-time dentistry, he still maintains strong ties to our practice. He still lives here in New Bern, is heavily engaged in our community, and even fills in from time to time if Dr. Lane is engaging in continuing education to bring new techniques and advances in dentistry here to our patients.
